EU 3‑Euro Fee Affects Temu, Shein, AliExpress Shoppers in Czechia, Slovakia

The European Union will, from 1 July, apply a flat €3 per‑item customs charge on parcels up to €150 sent from non‑EU e‑commerce platforms such as Temu, Shein and AliExpress. Czech consumers reported receiving low‑cost goods wrapped in the characteristic dark tape and expressed concern that the new rule could raise the price of a single T‑shirt three‑fold. Customs officials said the fee is based on the type of goods rather than the number of pieces, creating uncertainty for shoppers.

A Slovak market survey of 1,002 respondents showed that 55 % bought from Temu in the past year, with AliExpress and Shein also popular. The study found that two‑thirds of respondents would cut back on purchases if the €3 fee were introduced, especially younger shoppers. Awareness of the upcoming charge varied, with only a quarter of Generation Z participants unaware of it. The fee aims to curb the surge of cheap parcels entering the EU market.
