EU and Britain approve €90 billion loan package for Ukraine
EU member states voted in Brussels to admit the United Kingdom into a €90 billion loan mechanism created to support Ukraine through 2026‑2027. The package allocates €60 billion for defence purchases, including weaponry from British manufacturers, and €30 billion for direct economic and budgetary assistance. Repayment will depend on compensation from Russia after the war or on proceeds from frozen Russian assets held by the EU. The decision follows a July 13 agreement between the EU and Britain and will be formalised in the coming days. The loan is intended to cover Ukraine’s most urgent defence and economic needs amid continuing Russian aggression.
