Venezuela advances diplomatic ties at UN General Assembly
During the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia engaged in several high-level bilateral meetings to advance the country's diplomatic agenda.
A primary focus was the normalization of relations with Peru. Ministers Félix Plasencia and Carlos Espá met to consolidate a new stage of bilateral ties, following a progressive resumption process initiated in July. The discussions aimed to strengthen historical links and build a common development agenda based on mutual respect, specifically targeting the restoration of consular services.
Plasencia also held meetings with representatives from several other nations and organizations. He met with the foreign ministers of Jamaica, Guatemala, Italy, Portugal, and Angola. Additionally, he met with the interim Secretary-General of UNCTAD, Pedro Manuel Moreno, to discuss technical assistance in areas such as trade facilitation, digital economy, and export diversification.
In a separate meeting, Venezuelan officials addressed the need for increased access to international financing and investment for developing nations, emphasizing the importance of sovereignty in achieving sustainable development goals.
