EU and Slovakia implement new health and safety regulations
The European Parliament has approved the sixth revision of the Carcinogens, Mutagens and Reprotoxic substances Directive (CMRD). This update introduces new exposure limit values for hazardous chemicals, including cobalt and its inorganic compounds, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and 1,4-dioxane. The directive also establishes long-term exposure limits for isopropanol and mandates enhanced protective measures and training for workers, including firefighters and healthcare professionals.
In Slovakia, the National Council has passed two significant legislative updates. First, an amendment to the law on narcotic and psychotropic substances adds 2-MMC and 4-BMC to the controlled list due to high health risks and their presence on the illegal market.
Second, a major drug policy reform was approved to improve patient access to innovative treatments. The reform establishes clearer rules and timelines for new medicines entering the Slovak market, adjusts reimbursement conditions for medicines not covered by public health insurance, and introduces measures to curb the illegal re-export of pharmaceuticals.
