EU appointment of Tanja Fajon as Sahel envoy stalled by Slovenia

The European Union was set to vote on naming former Slovenian foreign minister Tanja Fajon as its special representative for the Sahel region. The agenda item was removed from the meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives, which unofficial sources say was done by the Slovenian government, prompting the EU to ask for an explanation. The nomination, proposed by EU foreign‑policy chief Kaja Kallas, follows the departure of Portuguese diplomat João Cravinho, who previously held the post. Slovenia’s foreign ministry has not yet responded on whether it backs the appointment.
