EU approves €3.9 billion drone funding for Ukraine

The European Commission has released a €3.9 billion (about 1.6 trillion forints) tranche of aid to Ukraine specifically for the procurement of drones and related defence‑industry development. The payment is part of a larger €90 billion EU loan package that was approved earlier this year and adds to the total EU and member‑state assistance of €211.3 billion pledged since the war began. The funding is intended to bolster Ukraine’s aerial capabilities, but officials and analysts have raised concerns about transparency and the ability to track how the money is used, echoing similar issues raised about U.S. military aid. In return for the financial support, Kyiv has pledged to undertake anti‑corruption reforms and improve fiscal transparency, though implementation has been described as uneven.
