EU Citizens Face Highest Tourist Visa Fees in Ghana and Bhutan

A survey of more than 40 countries shows that the most expensive tourist entry costs for EU passport holders are in Ghana, where an e‑visa costs $260 (≈€227), and Bhutan, where a $40 (≈€35) visa is supplemented by a Sustainable Development Fee of $100 (≈€88) per night.

Japan has also risen sharply, raising its tourist visa fee from ¥3,000 (≈€16) to ¥15,000 (≈€81). Other high‑cost destinations include Nigeria ($200‑$340), Cameroon (€153) and Saudi Arabia (SAR 395, ≈€92). The data were taken from official immigration sites.

The European Union is preparing its own travel‑authorisation system, ETIAS, which will cost €20 and be required of visa‑exempt travelers such as those from the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Canada and several Balkan states before entering 30 European countries.
