EU Commission rejects Save Europe Act, far‑right immigration campaign

The Save Europe Act (SEA), a far‑right European citizen initiative demanding an end to non‑Western immigration, was launched by Dutch activist Eva Vlaardingerbroek and Austrian Martin Sellner. The campaign claimed more than 643,000 signatures and was promoted online by U.S. activist Brian Brown, whose digital infrastructure is linked to companies with Kremlin connections. On 22 July the European Commission rejected the initiative’s registration, stating that its demand to bar non‑Western migrants discriminates on the basis of ethnicity and that the signature collection violated EU rules. The commission also noted that the campaign failed to meet technical requirements, such as collecting birth dates and allowing EU citizens only to sign. Organisers plan to continue a demonstration tour across European cities, beginning in Utrecht. The rejection highlights tensions between far‑right groups, EU immigration policy, and concerns over foreign influence in European political campaigns.
