EU Council Ratifies Trade Deal with United States

The European Council formally approved the EU‑United States trade agreement, adopting two legislative texts that implement the EU's tariff commitments toward the United States. The deal eliminates customs duties on U.S. industrial goods and grants preferential market access for a wide range of U.S. seafood and agricultural products. It also introduces enhanced protection and suspension mechanisms that will remain in force until the end of 2029.

The agreement follows a European Parliament approval last week and will enter into force after publication in the EU Official Journal. Negotiations concluded in July 2025 at Donald Trump’s Turnberry golf resort in Scotland. Under the pact, the United States will not impose tariffs on EU industrial goods, while the EU will apply a 15% tariff on certain EU products.
