EU Customs Duty Cuts Small Package Shipments to Denmark by Half

New European Union customs rules that took effect last week impose a minimum duty of €3 on parcels valued under €150 when shipped from non‑EU countries to Denmark. The Danish Customs Agency reports that the weekly volume of such low‑value parcels fell from about 400,000 to roughly 200,000, a reduction of 50 %. Director Christian Lützen said the agency will continue to monitor the trend, noting that it is still early to assess the long‑term impact. The duty replaces the previous exemption, which had allowed parcels under the €150 threshold to enter duty‑free, a change prompted by a rise in cross‑border e‑commerce.

The rule aims to level the playing field for EU retailers by discouraging cheap imports from outside the bloc and generating additional revenue for customs.
