European Union defense readiness report reveals critical military gaps
A new report on European Union defense readiness has revealed significant vulnerabilities across the bloc. EU High Representative Kaja Kallas warned that despite increased defense investments, substantial gaps remain in critical areas, specifically in air defense, drone capabilities, and ammunition stocks.
The analysis suggests that current efforts are insufficient to meet the 2030 goal of establishing a military posture strong enough to deter potential Russian aggression against EU member states. Kallas also warned of ongoing hybrid threats, citing intelligence that Russia is planning sabotage acts and attacks on democratic institutions to destabilize European societies.
In response, German Defense State Secretary Sebastian Hartmann urged other EU member states to significantly increase their defense spending, mirroring Germany's recent actions. He emphasized the need for increased cooperation and innovation to ensure the European defense industry can build and sustain necessary capacities.
