EU diplomat warns of Russian aggression as NATO official discusses peace talks

European Union top diplomat Kaja Kallas has warned that Russia is attempting to intimidate Europe into reducing its defense support for Ukraine. Kallas stated that if such intimidation succeeds, it will likely lead to increased Russian aggression globally. Her perspective is informed by her personal history; she spent her early childhood under Soviet rule after her family was deported to Siberia during Stalinist mass deportations.

Separately, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker suggested that Ukrainian strikes within Russian territory may be pushing Moscow and Kyiv closer to potential negotiations. While Whitaker noted that both sides remain far apart on critical issues, he emphasized that the conflict must be resolved through diplomacy rather than the battlefield. He indicated that the Trump administration is actively engaging both parties to find common ground for a deal.
