EU Disburses €3.9 billion to Ukraine for Drone Procurement

The European Commission announced a first disbursement of €3.9 billion to Ukraine for the purchase of unmanned aerial vehicles. This payment is part of a €90 billion support loan covering the 2026‑2027 period, with the initial tranche of about €6 billion earmarked for drones.

The loan also includes €30 billion for macro‑economic and fiscal assistance and €60 billion for strengthening Ukraine’s defence industry. Funding is sourced from EU borrowing on capital markets and is expected to be repaid with future Russian war reparations. Disbursements are linked to Ukraine’s implementation of reforms in the rule of law, transparency and anti‑corruption measures, and further payments will follow in the coming days.
