EU extends Russia sanctions until July 2027
The European Union Council renewed its economic sanctions against Russia for another year, now running until 31 July 2027. The measures target Russia’s financial, energy, defence and dual‑use sectors, impose a ban on arms exports and imports, restrict the transport of crude oil and certain petroleum products from Russia to the EU, and limit Russian access to sensitive oil‑production technologies.
Additional restrictions block a range of financial institutions and crypto‑service providers linked to Russia, and suspend broadcasting licences of Kremlin‑linked disinformation channels within the EU. The EU stated the extension is a response to Russia’s “unjustified and illegal military aggression” in Ukraine and warned it is ready to adopt further steps if Russia continues to breach international law.
