EU fails to achieve unanimity on sanctions against Israeli minister Ben Gvir

EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas said the 27‑member council could not reach the unanimity needed to sanction Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir. Several member states had proposed measures, but countries including the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Hungary opposed, preventing a joint decision.

Kallas also told a press conference that EU foreign ministers agreed Lebanon should be covered by the cease‑fire negotiated between the United States and Iran. She said the bloc will ask the European Commission to prepare proposals to restrict or ban trade with products from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
