Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is considering restricting a potential AfD-led state government's access to OPLAN, a highly sensitive 1,000-page defense and NATO response plan. The move aims to prevent the possible transfer of strategic information to Russia. This proposal has met resistance from local officials in Magdeburg, who argue against excluding the state from national security planning.

In Brussels, MEP Daniel Freund suggested that the European Commission could freeze EU regional funds for Saxony-Anhalt if an AfD government violates EU fundamental rights or the rule of law. The state is a major recipient of these funds, with approximately 2.95 billion euros allocated for the 2021–2027 period.

Economically, Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel warned that the AfD's political platform—which includes skepticism toward the Euro and closer ties with Moscow—could deter foreign investment and destabilize the German economy.
