Andalusian coasts record Blue Flag honors and receive multi‑million euro regeneration funds

The Andalusian region has seen a surge in coastal recognitions and investments. In Almería, officials presented a record 38 Blue Flag distinctions to beaches, three ports, four Blue Centers and one Blue Trail, adding four new flags compared with the previous year. Cádiz province awarded 32 beaches, six sport marinas and ten Blue Centers with the Blue Flag, confirming its status as a leading sustainable tourism destination. Huelva secured 21 Blue Flags across beaches, ports, a tourist vessel and two Blue Centers, reinforcing its leadership in quality coastal tourism.

Concurrently, the Spanish government allocated more than €4.1 million to regenerate six storm‑damaged beaches in Cádiz, including €1.815 million for Camposoto in San Fernando and sizeable sand‑placement projects at Santa María del Mar, El Palmar, Punta Candor, Las Redes‑Santa Catalina and La Barrosa. Additionally, European Union funds of about €1.5 million were approved for beach equipment in four Cádiz municipalities—Vejer, San Roque, Los Barrios and Chipiona—supporting accessibility, safety and environmental upgrades.

These actions aim to improve beach quality, safety and resilience ahead of the summer season and underscore the region’s commitment to sustainable coastal tourism.
