European Union imposes record sanctions on 1,600 Russian military-industrial entities

The European Union has approved its largest single expansion of sanctions against Russia since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. The new package targets approximately 1,600 individuals and entities, specifically focusing on the Russian military-industrial complex. This includes 826 companies and 743 executives, many of whom are involved in the production of ballistic missiles, drones, and advanced aircraft components.

The sanctions aim to disrupt the supply chains for critical technologies, such as semiconductors, microcircuits, and satellite systems. Additionally, the EU has sanctioned 77 individuals for their involvement in what it termed illegal elections held in occupied Ukrainian territories. The total number of individuals and entities under the EU sanctions regime supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity has now reached approximately 4,600.

In a separate decision, the EU extended sanctions regarding the proliferation and use of chemical weapons until October 30, 2031. The measures include asset freezes, travel bans, and prohibitions on providing economic resources to the listed parties. EU officials stated that these actions are a direct response to Russia's continued attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure and its hybrid warfare against EU member states.
