EU packaging regulations on pallets and BPA set to take effect

From 12 August 2026 the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) requires a Declaration of Conformity for EPAL pallets. The declaration confirms that EPAL pallets meet the reusable‑packaging standards of EN 13429 and count toward the reuse targets set out in article 29 of the regulation. Users of EPAL pallets in open‑pool systems are exempt from monitoring the number of pallet rotations.

On 20 July a new EU rule bans the intentional use of bisphenol A (BPA) and its salts in most food‑contact materials. The ban applies to newly placed packaging across the EU, while existing stock may continue to be used until depleted, with extended transition periods for certain sectors until 2028‑2029. Companies must certify new packaging and adjust supply chains to comply.

Both measures are part of the EU’s broader effort to improve packaging sustainability and food safety, affecting manufacturers, distributors and retailers throughout the bloc, including Poland.
