The European Commission announced a new disbursement of €3.47 billion to Ukraine under the defence component of the €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan. The funds are earmarked for the acquisition of long‑range jet‑propelled drones, missiles and Gripen fighter aircraft, aiming to strengthen Kyiv’s air‑defence capability.

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the payment will help protect Ukraine’s skies and support its population, adding that each Russian attack reinforces both Ukraine’s resolve and the EU’s commitment. The tranche follows earlier transfers of €3.2 bn (macroeconomic aid, 25 June), €3.9 bn (30 June) and €1.1 bn (15 July). By the end of 2026 the EU plans to allocate a total of €28.3 bn for Ukraine’s defence industry, part of the broader €90 bn loan programme that also includes €60 bn designated for defence.

Since the start of the Russian invasion, EU institutions and member states have provided Ukraine with more than €220 bn in various forms of assistance.
