EU representative highlights role of mine clearance in Azerbaijan's urban reconstruction

At the 4th International Mine Action Conference held in Baku, Mariana Kyundziç, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan, emphasized that humanitarian mine clearance is a fundamental prerequisite for urban reconstruction and the return of displaced populations.

Kyundziç stated that the objective of mine clearance extends beyond removing explosives; it is about restoring security, enabling the rebuilding of homes and public infrastructure, and allowing communities to regain stability and hope. She noted that a settlement is only truly safe when families can return without fear, children can attend school safely, and public services can resume under clear standards.

The conference, co-organized by the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) and the United Nations, focuses on establishing excellence standards for safe settlements. The European Union expressed its support for Azerbaijan's efforts in land survey, clearance, and community assistance, viewing mine action and reconstruction as parallel processes necessary for human dignity and normal life.
