Russia launches massive ballistic missile attack on Kyiv

On the night of 19 July 2026, Russia launched the largest single ballistic‑missile strike on Kyiv since the war began, firing about 41 missiles—including Iskander and Zircon types—and 125 attack drones, most aimed at Ukraine’s capital. Ukrainian air‑defence forces shot down 18 of the missiles and intercepted 108 of the drones, while 23 missiles and 10 drones reached the city, striking 20 locations across five districts. The bombardment caused one confirmed death, 15‑16 injuries, extensive fires in residential blocks, a student dormitory, a supermarket and several streets, and prompted emergency services to respond in three zones with nearly 600 rescue workers.

Ukraine’s military commander reported a simultaneous strike on two Russian oil tankers in the Black Sea and a floating crane in the Azov Sea, aiming to damage logistical assets used by Moscow. President Volodymyr Zelensky called the attack one of the biggest ballistic‑missile assaults on Kyiv and stressed the need for stronger anti‑missile defence and increased pressure on Russia.
