EU Set to Pass 21st Sanctions Package Against Russia After Orban's Exit

European Union officials say the 21st sanctions package targeting Russia could be approved quickly now that former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who previously blocked or slowed sanction measures, is no longer in power. European Parliament member Thierry Mariani told Izvestia that without Orban the package will pass “easily, swiftly and almost automatically,” reflecting a more unified but less debated EU stance.

EU Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho announced that proposals for the new sanctions round will be sent to member states within the week, marking a coordinated effort to intensify economic pressure on Moscow.

The development follows broader EU discussions on security, technology sovereignty and regional challenges, but the immediate focus is on expanding restrictions on Russian entities and individuals under the new package.
