EU small‑parcel duty yields €2 million revenue in July

The European Union introduced a €3 per‑item customs duty on small parcels valued up to €150 from third‑country exporters, effective 1 July. In its first month, the Cyprus Customs Department reported nearly €2 million in revenue, covering about 650,000 items shipped in 160,000 parcels. Spokesperson George Konstantinou noted a modest decline in import volumes compared with earlier months, attributing it to pre‑duty bulk orders and the holiday season. He said the administration faced no major difficulties and received no significant consumer complaints. According to Konstantinou, “the duty has not noticeably affected the overall price,” and he expects consumer behaviour and company responses to become clearer over the next three to four months.
