EU to allocate 60 million euros for Eastern Flank defense

The European Union is set to allocate 60 million euros toward the Eastern Flank Watch project, a defense initiative aimed at strengthening the EU's eastern borders. According to Paweł Zalewski, Deputy Minister of National Defense, the funding will be sourced from the European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP) and is intended for use through the end of 2027.

The project focuses on enhancing capabilities in drone defense, air and anti-missile defense, land combat abilities, and military mobility. In response to increasing acts of sabotage, diversion, and airspace violations, Poland is advocating for a larger share of these funds and seeks to lead in their implementation.

Additionally, Poland is proposing that the EU co-finance the expansion of a military fuel pipeline network. This infrastructure would transport fuel from Germany through Poland to eastern regions to support ground forces and aviation.
