Bosnia and Herzegovina security leaders warn of fragile stability

At the fourth Sarajevo Security Conference, international military and diplomatic leaders emphasized the fragile security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. EUFOR Commander Major General Maurizio Fronda stated that the mission's focus is on proactive prevention of instability rather than merely responding to it. He noted that the security of Bosnia and Herzegovina is inextricably linked to the broader security of Europe.

NATO's James Fowler warned that the peace achieved after the 1992-1995 war must not be undermined by political divisions or malign external influences. Similarly, EU Delegation Chief Luigi Soreca highlighted the need to strengthen regional resilience against foreign interference.

UK Special Envoy Karen Pierce described the security environment as stable but fragile, warning of risks from disinformation, hybrid threats, and cyber issues, particularly from Russia. Regarding the Office of the High Representative (OHR), Pierce affirmed strong Western support for its role and the work of acting High Representative Louis Crishock. She noted that for the OHR to eventually depart, local leaders must fulfill the 5+2 program, specifically resolving the issue of state property to enable foreign investment.
