Eugen Tomac calls for political flexibility to form Romanian government

Presidential advisor Eugen Tomac has called for maximum flexibility from political parties to resolve Romania's current legislative fragmentation and avoid a total government deadlock. Tomac emphasized that a stable parliamentary majority must be generated through intense dialogue among pro-European parties.

Currently, two official proposals have been made: the PSD has proposed Grindeanu, while the PNL, USR, and UDMR have proposed Sigfried Mureșan. However, Tomac noted that neither candidate currently possesses a supporting majority. He stated that the President will designate a Prime Minister to form a government as soon as a viable majority is established.

Tomac described President Nicușor Dan as a rational leader focused on resolving the crisis quickly to protect strategic projects and avoid the loss of European funds, specifically regarding the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). He noted that the responsibility for resolving the impasse now lies with the political parties to find consensus.
