Eugen Tomac warns early elections in Romania would benefit Putin
Eugen Tomac, an advisor to President Nicușor Dan, has warned that holding early elections in Romania would not resolve the current political crisis but would instead deepen it. Tomac stated that early elections would be ‘a gift for Putin’, suggesting that such a move could benefit political forces that promote Kremlin narratives and increase national instability.
Tomac emphasized the need for a pragmatic political solution and a rational compromise between political parties to find a governing formula and a prime minister. He noted that the priority should be maintaining Romania’s firm pro-Western direction, specifically consolidating its partnership with the United States and its loyalty to the European Union.
Regarding the possibility of his own nomination for prime minister, Tomac avoided a direct answer, instead stressing the importance of building a parliamentary majority and a political compromise around a future leader. President Nicușor Dan has indicated that a nomination for the position of prime minister will be made on Monday afternoon.
