Euro-Office develops desktop application to rival Microsoft Office

Euro-Office, an open-source productivity suite developed by a coalition of European companies including Nextcloud, Ionos, and Open-Xchange, is developing a desktop application to compete with Microsoft Office.

Designed to enhance data sovereignty and reduce reliance on non-European software providers, the suite will move beyond browser-based use to offer a dedicated desktop experience. The upcoming application will support Windows 11 (AMD64 and ARM64 architectures), Linux, and 64-bit macOS. This transition aims to provide features such as offline editing, local file management, and seamless synchronization with Nextcloud instances.

The project utilizes technology derived from ONLYOFFICE under the AGPLv3 license and maintains compatibility with DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX formats to facilitate file sharing with Microsoft Office users.
