Eurobirdwatch 2026 to host migratory bird observations in Italy

The Eurobirdwatch 2026 event will take place on October 3 and 4, 2026, as part of a pan-European initiative to observe and record migratory bird species. Organized by BirdLife Europe and coordinated in Italy by LIPU, the event aims to collect vital data on migration routes and promote environmental awareness.

In Calabria, three specific locations have been designated for birdwatching: Lago di Tarsia, Palude del Lago di Ariamacina, and the mouth of the Mesima River. Participants will have the opportunity to observe various species, including raptors, storks, and herons.

In Sicily, the Biviere di Gela Nature Reserve will host activities in collaboration with LIPU sections from Caltanissetta and Niscemi. This reserve is recognized as an internationally important wetland under the RAMSAR convention and serves as a critical stopover for many migratory aquatic birds. The program includes guided census activities and observations spanning from hills to coastal areas.
