EuroLeague clubs approve franchise model and expansion plans

Thirteen EuroLeague shareholder clubs have decided to move forward with a strategic transformation of the competition. Following a meeting in Cernobbio, the owners agreed to begin converting current ten-year licenses into a franchise model.

The clubs also intend to continue evaluating the expansion of the league. The Board of Directors has been tasked with conducting further assessments and presenting a final recommendation for approval in the coming weeks.

While the official communiqué did not explicitly mention the NBA, the decision indicates that the shareholder clubs have, at least for the time being, rejected the American league's proposal regarding the future of European basketball.
