EuroLeague considers expansion and long-term franchise model
EuroLeague officials are considering significant structural changes starting from the 2027/28 season. If an agreement is not reached with the NBA regarding a potential takeover of the league, European clubs are exploring an expansion to 24 teams.
This proposed model includes the introduction of a long-term franchise system, with up to eight new long-term licenses potentially being awarded. Serbian clubs Partizan and Crvena zvezda are among the candidates mentioned who could benefit from this new stability.
A key meeting hosted by Olimpia Milano is scheduled for October 5 near Lake Como to discuss these developments, including the NBA's potential interest in purchasing the league and the future of the Final Four tournament.
