Europe and Greece face significant weather shifts and storms

Meteorologist Michalis Sioutas has warned of a significant atmospheric shift across Europe. A cold front moving from the western Mediterranean toward Italy, Central Europe, and the Balkans is expected to collide with warm, moist air. This interaction is predicted to trigger intense storms, large hail, strong winds, and heavy rainfall, with the potential for flash floods. In parts of Central Europe, temperatures could drop by as much as 15–20°C within a 24-hour period.

Following this European disturbance, weather changes are expected to reach Greece starting the evening of Saturday, September 12, initially affecting northern regions with rain and storms.

Regarding long-term seasonal outlooks, early data from the ECMWF system suggests that the upcoming winter in Greece may see average temperatures higher than historical norms. While a warmer winter is projected for December 2026 through February 2027, experts note that warmer averages do not preclude short, intense periods of cold or significant weather events.
