Europe faces severe economic risks from extreme heat and drought
Europe is facing a severe climate crisis in 2026, characterized by its fifth major heatwave of the summer. The continent is warming nearly twice as fast as any other region, with temperatures now approximately 2.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

The heat also increases the risk of massive wildfires, with potential damages in countries like France, Spain, and Greece estimated in the tens of billions of euros.
