Europe faces historic heatwaves and extreme summer temperatures

Europe is experiencing a historic period of extreme heat, marking the second major heatwave in just two months. The intense temperatures have caused significant disruptions across the continent, including railway interruptions in Great Britain, power grid failures in France, and the early closure of major landmarks such as the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower.

Météo-France reported that the country has recorded its hottest days on record this year. The severity of the current conditions has drawn comparisons to the 2003 heatwave, which resulted in approximately 70,000 deaths across Europe. Beyond the immediate physical dangers, the extreme weather is contributing to a rise in eco-anxiety among residents.

Temperatures have reached critical levels in various nations, with Slovakia recording 42.2 degrees Celsius and Denmark seeing temperatures as high as 37 degrees Celsius. The heatwave has also been linked to wildfires covering nearly 600,000 hectares and drying rivers, fundamentally altering the traditional perception of European summers.
