Europe is grappling with the severe consequences of the summer 2026 heatwave and drought. In Germany, the summer was recorded as one of the warmest since 1881, with an average temperature of 19.6 degrees Celsius. A record temperature of 41.8 degrees Celsius was measured in Möckern-Drewitz, Saxony-Anhalt. Precipitation levels were significantly below average, reaching only 72 percent of the long-term norm. Meteorologists predict a secondary heat surge in early September, with temperatures potentially reaching 35 degrees Celsius.

In Luxembourg, extreme heat and drought have created existential challenges for the agricultural sector. In response, the Ministry for Agriculture, Food and Viticulture has announced relief measures, including exemptions from certain agricultural obligations and increased flexibility in managing pastures and buffer strips to help farmers survive the crisis.

Health and weather concerns are also rising elsewhere. In Southern Italy, authorities have reported two cases of locally transmitted Dengue fever, linked to the presence of the tiger mosquito. Meanwhile, in Istanbul, the disaster protection agency AKOM has issued warnings for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected to arrive by Friday.
