In Spain, the Carlos III Health Institute reported 4,947 heat-related deaths since May, making 2026 the deadliest year on record for the nation. France also experienced significant impacts, recording its highest-ever national average temperature and over 7,000 excess deaths between late May and late July.

Other notable impacts include projected deaths in Italy between 5,000 and 8,000, and an estimated 2,900 deaths in the United Kingdom. Health experts attribute the rising mortality rates to climate change and an aging population, noting that heat-related deaths in the European region have increased by more than 30% over the last two decades.
