Europe increases mobile phone enforcement in NL, DE, and BE
European authorities in the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium have launched a coordinated enforcement week to combat distracted driving caused by mobile phones. Organized by the European Traffic Police Network (ROADPOL) under the title “Focus on the Road,” the campaign runs from October 5 to October 11.
Police are targeting drivers who use smartphones or other electronic devices while operating vehicles. In the Netherlands, enforcement includes the use of specialized “focusflitser” cameras designed to detect drivers holding devices. The Dutch government plans to expand the number of these active cameras from approximately 40 to 50 by the end of the year.
In Belgium, additional nationwide checks are scheduled for October 8 and 9. The initiative aims to reduce accidents resulting from digital distractions, with enforcement intensity and methods varying by country.
