Europe likely to see milder winter as cold Atlantic anomaly and Super El Niño develop

Meteorologists report that a newly‑identified cold anomaly, known as a "cold blob," is expanding in the North Atlantic and is expected to persist until at least 2027. At the same time, a strong Super El Niño is forming in the tropical Pacific.

The contrast between the unusually cold Atlantic waters and the warm Pacific conditions is projected to shape pressure patterns over the Northern Hemisphere. Models indicate high pressure may build over Canada while lower pressure dominates central and southern United States. Over Europe, the forecast suggests an expansion of high‑pressure zones, which could bring warmer-than‑average temperatures and a milder winter across much of the continent. These projections are still early and subject to revision as the season approaches.
