Romania endures two‑week heatwave with temperatures reaching 36 °C

Romanian meteorologists forecast a prolonged heatwave from 6 July to 19 July, with maximum temperatures climbing to 36 °C in several regions. The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) expects hot spells across Banat, Crișana, Transylvania, Moldavia, Dobrogea, Muntenia and Oltenia, interspersed with periods of rain and thunderstorms. In Botoșani, extreme heat has already scorched crops, prompting concerns over agricultural losses. In Bucharest, the earlier heatwave caused medical emergencies, flooded subway stations and downed trees, while new storms bring gusty winds and isolated hail. A separate guidance article advises poultry keepers to use a homemade electrolyte solution (water, sugar, sea‑salt, bicarbonate and citric acid) to protect chickens from heat stress. The forecast also notes that after a brief cooling phase mid‑week, temperatures will rise again in the latter half of July, with rainfall probabilities higher on 6‑8 July and 13‑19 July. Overall, the July heatwave is set to affect large parts of the country, jeopardising health, agriculture and infrastructure.
