European authorities urge emergency preparedness amid rising climate and security threats

European authorities and climate experts are urging citizens to prepare emergency survival kits to mitigate risks from natural disasters, extreme weather, and potential infrastructure failures. The European Union has been promoting a strategy to ensure populations can maintain autonomy for at least the first 72 hours of a crisis, ranging from meteorological phenomena to supply shortages.

In response to these threats, countries such as Spain and France have updated their public guidance. Recommended essentials for a survival kit include sufficient water supplies, non-perishable or dehydrated foods, a first aid kit with necessary personal medications, and essential documentation like passports and identification.

Climate scientist Hannah Cloke from the University of Reading supports the recommendation to maintain enough provisions for two to three days. These preparations come amid rising concerns regarding heatwaves, flooding, and potential cyberattacks on vital energy infrastructure.
