Joan Laporta addresses Barcelona's return to EFC and club relations
During the 33rd General Assembly of the European Football Clubs (EFC) in Copenhagen, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta addressed several institutional and sporting matters. Laporta confirmed Barcelona’s return to the organization and noted that relations with Real Madrid remain nonexistent due to ongoing legal disputes regarding the Negreira case. He criticized Real Madrid for public attacks on the club and stated that Barcelona would defend its honor.
Regarding transfer market activity, Laporta announced a reconciliation with Atlético de Madrid CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín. The two leaders reportedly embraced, signaling an end to the summer dispute triggered by Barcelona’s interest in striker Julián Álvarez. Laporta indicated that this improved relationship could potentially open doors for negotiations regarding Álvarez in the January transfer window.
On the pitch, Laporta expressed concern over player injuries during international breaks, specifically mentioning Raphinha and Eric Garcia. He also confirmed that the club still intends to hold a formal tribute for Lionel Messi, though the event will be delayed until the renovation of the Spotify Camp Nou is complete, with a target completion date in early 2028.
