European Commission advances discussions on ending seasonal time changes

The European Commission is preparing technical documentation to assist member states in reaching an agreement regarding the potential abolition of seasonal time changes. While the European Union has been considering the end of daylight saving time for several years, member states have yet to reach a consensus on a unified procedure.

In Slovakia, public opinion shows a preference for permanent daylight saving time, with 57% of residents expressing a desire to maintain summer time throughout the year to avoid earlier winter sunsets. Despite these discussions, the current system remains in effect, with the next scheduled transition to standard time occurring on October 25, 2026.
