European Commission releases 1.24 billion euros for Ukraine defense industry
The European Commission has released 1.24 billion euros to bolster Ukraine's defense industry as part of the 90 billion euro Ukraine Support Loan program. This specific allocation is designated for the procurement of drones, drone interception systems, ammunition, and missiles, with a focus on equipment manufactured by Ukrainian enterprises to strengthen the country's domestic industrial base.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen condemned Russia's recent aerial strikes on cities including Kyiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kremenchuk, and Prylukiv. She accused Moscow of employing a 'deliberate strategy of terror' intended to make daily life unbearable for Ukrainian citizens by targeting critical infrastructure and civilian safety.
The funding is part of a broader financial framework where 60 billion euros are allocated to defense and 30 billion euros to fiscal support. Total assistance from the EU and its member states to Ukraine since 2022 has surpassed 228 billion euros.
