European Commission awards New European Bauhaus prizes

The European Commission has announced the winners of the sixth New European Bauhaus (NEB) prizes. Established in 2020 to integrate the European Green Deal into architecture and the construction industry, the initiative aims to foster sustainability, inclusion, and aesthetics through innovation and design.

Winners across various categories receive 20,000 euros along with coaching and mentoring. This year's competition included entries from EU member states, the Western Balkans, Ukraine, Moldova, and for the first time, Japan and Brazil. Projects were evaluated in two tracks: Champions and Rising Stars, covering themes such as circular economy, local democracy, and cultural heritage.

Notable winners include the Big People project from Zeitz, Germany, which involves local and refugee children collaborating on a circus carnival. Other winning projects include Circular by Nature in Marseille, France, and the Social Impact Generator Hub in Nicosia, Cyprus.
