European Commission launches Water Resilience Stakeholder Platform
The European Commission, alongside the European Economic and Social Committee and the European Committee of the Regions, has launched the Water Resilience Stakeholder Platform in Brussels. The initiative follows President von der Leyen’s announcement of a new European Water Initiative, aimed at addressing the impacts of extreme heat and droughts on agriculture and energy production.
The Platform seeks to bring together business representatives, civil society, local authorities, and Member State governments to implement the EU’s Water Resilience Strategy. Key focus areas include digitalization, water efficiency, and accelerating water reuse to meet resilience objectives by 2050.
In conjunction with these policy shifts, the European Irrigation & Water Resilience Forum will convene in Brussels to discuss the technological and economic strategies required for a sustainable agricultural sector. The forum aims to bridge the gap between European water objectives and practical implementation, focusing on irrigation efficiency and market trends.
