European Commission reviews final €123 billion in Recovery and Resilience Facility payments

The European Commission has released its fifth annual report on the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), marking the final stages of the post-pandemic economic instrument. Since its launch in 2021 under NextGenerationEU, the RRF has distributed €450 billion, representing 79% of its total resources. The Commission is currently reviewing 32 final payment requests totaling approximately €123 billion, which are expected to be disbursed by the end of 2026.

Member states have fulfilled 4,082 of nearly 6,000 committed milestones and targets. A significant portion of the funding, totaling €287 billion, is dedicated to the green transition. Notable regional successes include solar and low-emission heating initiatives in the Czech Republic and regulatory reforms to expand wind and photovoltaic capacity in Poland.

Bulgaria has been highlighted for its mixed progress. While the country has made strides in anti-corruption reforms and green investments, it has faced several funding suspensions due to unfulfilled milestones. Recent decisions include the lifting of some suspensions, while others remain under review as the country undergoes corrective measures to meet specific targets.
