European Committee of the Regions condemns glorification of Ratko Mladić

The European Committee of the Regions, an advisory body of the European Union, is set to adopt a resolution strongly condemning the glorification of Ratko Mladić in Serbia and Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The resolution, initiated by Croatian members, expresses serious concern regarding the public celebration of convicted war criminals as national heroes. It states that such actions call into question the commitment of Serbian authorities to meet EU membership criteria, specifically regarding reconciliation, the rule of law, and respect for victims of war crimes.

Nikola Dobroslavić, president of the Croatian delegation, described the state and military honors provided during Mladić's funeral in Belgrade as ‘anti-European and anti-civilizational behavior,’ noting that such conduct hinders EU accession progress.
