European Digital Identity Wallet rollout meets awareness hurdles in Germany as Malta launches €15.6M tender
A survey of 1,000 German consumers found that only 23% are familiar with the European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet, while 46% overall trust the German government to implement it successfully. Trust rises to 73% among those who know the concept, but concerns remain about data privacy, security, interoperability and system complexity.
At the same time, Malta’s Digital Innovation Authority has opened a €15.6 million open‑procedure tender (CT2274/2026) to develop a fully compliant EUDI Wallet platform that will work across all EU member states. The contract covers software development, system integration and the creation of a trust ecosystem, with submissions due by 3 September. A separate €310 k tender seeks online identity‑verification software for Malta’s eID system.
