European economy faces market barriers as smartphone sales decline
European Central Bank Executive Board member Piero Cipollone stated that there are currently no signs of potential stagflation in the macroeconomic landscape. However, he emphasized the ongoing challenge of limited goods circulation within the European market.
Cipollone noted that the EU should focus on utilizing existing potential by reducing barriers to cross-border business expansion. This would allow companies to better leverage the market of 450 million consumers to create international champions with adequate production scales.
In the technology sector, European smartphone shipments have seen a 10% decline compared to 2025, driven largely by high inflation and geopolitical tensions. According to Counterpoint research, Apple and Samsung remain the dominant players, capturing 34% of total shipments each. Other brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, Realme, and Honor hold significantly smaller market shares. Eastern Europe has experienced the most severe decline in sales due to reduced purchasing power.
